NEXUS BERLIN - Berlin, DE

site plan

"Nexus Berlin" is a multimodal transportation hub design for the former Ostbahnhof in Berlin. It shows a concept of a future-oriented building, offering great sojourn qualities besides the traditional hub character, combining different mobility options.

Due to the force of global digitisation and the growing desire of being able to be mobile within the city and across long distances, "Nexus Berlin" targets this aspect by uniting different mobility options with numerous offers for a passengers stay. It offers e.g. green areas to relax, studios to work or hold meetings in, multiple restaurants or food courts, sport areas and retailshops. Additionally, two towers with a height of 120m are incorporated containing offices in the Southern tower and a hotel in Nothern tower.

Regarding the mobility options "Nexus Berlin" operates between short distances, like first/last miles, and long distances. It has an underground garage offering nearly 1000 parking spaces for private cars, carsharing as well as autonomous cars. On street level cabstands, Kiss&Ride areas, bike-sharing and scooter spots as well as a connections to the regional bus infrastructure are located. A connection to water transportation on the adjacent Spree river would also be feasible. The transregional connection can be found on the platform level above the street, where hyperloop tubes, platform for metro and long-haul trains are situated, complemented by stops for long-distance buses.

"Nexus Berlin" strengthens the public transport options and enhances the quality of the surrounding gentrified neighborhood, while being a green and beautiful addition to the adjacent urban context.
